To catalyze the Kenyan tech community’s growth.

Temporary / Permanent Consultant1

  • Company: uMARK.IT
  • Deadline: Thursday 30th June 2011
  • Location: Nairobi
Job Description

Project: Google Africa Android App Competition for East Africa

Position Type: Temporary to Permanent Consultant

Wages: 50% of competition earnings

Length: ASAP until submission deadline (July 1)

Position Description:

We are looking for a short-term consultant to help develop an android interface for our web platform that constructs users’ financial statements. Specifically, we are hoping to enter the app into Google’s Android App Competition for East Africa. Since we are located in New York City, we are unable to enter the competition, thus we are looking for a partner on the ground to help build and enter the app into the competition.

We will guide the consultant in development and if success is had (ie we win!), we will split the revenue with you. In addition, we are hoping to expand the product to Africa, and we view this consultancy as an opportunity to develop a more strategic partnership with a developer on the ground in Sub-Saharan Africa.

uMARK.IT is a start-up focused on developing mobile tech solutions to help small business and those organizations facilitating their success. Our first product enables entrepreneurs to record financial transactions on their mobile while our ‘cloud’ server constructs their financial statements for them. The product is being tested by street vendors in New York City, and a partnership with a microfinance institution in Peru is being established to provide more testing and feedback. The second product is a data- capturing platform built on SMS text messages. An NGO in Singapore is using the platform to track data and measure their impact using the IRIS metrics, developed by the Rockefeller Foundation and the Acumen Fund.

Currently, our 2 member team is based in New York City, but we have work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America and SE Asia. Our technical lead has developed numerous web and android products, in addition to experience in commercial finance. The business development lead has experience in the microfinance, non-profit and mobile payments sectors.
