Job Description

m:lab East Africa is a mobile technology incubator established through a seed fund from InfoDev. The Lab’s mission is To facilitate demand-driven innovation by regional entrepreneurs, ensuring that breakthrough low-cost, high-value mobile solutions can be developed and scaled-up into sustainable businesses that address social and economic needs. Its vision is “to be a leader in identifying, nurturing and helping to create sustainable enterprises in the knowledge economy.”


The Lab is hosted by a consortium comprising iHub, eMobilis, University of Nairobi, and The World Wide Web Foundation. 


An opportunity to join the Lab’s team has arisen in the position of “Customer Relations Assistant”. Below are details of the opening which will initially be a short term contract :-


Job Responsibilities

  • Receiving and responding to service requests from resident incubation clients and trainees
  • Handling prospective customers including providing information on the Lab’s strategic direction and activities
  • Administering online/mobile reservation systems for the Lab’s facilities
  • Managing and accounting for expenses including petty cash management
  • Ensuring that the Lab’s facilities remain clean, serviced and well maintained
  • Providing logistical support for official meetings and events
  • Participating in the Lab’s social media strategy
  • Handling visitors and their needs at the reception desk
  • Undertaking any other tasks assigned to ensure that customers are satisfied with the Lab’s quality of service

Job Requirements

  • One year experience in any formal employment, as an intern or a as volunteer in a customer facing role (cumulative)
  • A university degree from a recognized university
  • Working knowledge of Google’s online collaboration technologies including email, docs, sites and calendar  
  • Willingness to serve clients as a front office staff
  • Blogging experience will be an added advantage

  • Team player that goes out of their way to get good results
  • Enthusiasm for mobile innovations

Duration and terms

  • The position will be on a short term (6 months) contract with a possibility of extension depending on availability of funds
  • The holder of the position will report to the Lab Manager
