  • Starts: 9:00am
  • Ends: 4:00pm

Ernest and Frederik Lötter are two South African brothers and Electronics Engineers who have embarked on a trip from the UK to South Africa in their Land Rover Defender fitted with a Raspberry Pi-based distributed light control system; Benevolently offering some technical workshops to schools, universities, technology hubs and technical business incubators on the way down, with their focus on Africa (

The great news is they will be passing through Kenya and will hold a two day workshop on Embedded Linux on ARM using the Raspberry Pi platform at the iHub on  the 23rd and 24th of November. The focus of the workshop is Embedded Linux on ARM, and how to create such an environment from scratch (source). They will be using the Raspberry Pi as platform and give the students a complete design challenge to end up with a complete working embedded system.

Anyone is welcome to attend the workshop however, the content of the practicals are aimed at people who are interested in working with ARM technology.

You may be software developer who has never worked on the ARM processor architecture before (maybe you come from an x86/Windows background). We will look at software development using the Python programming language running on a Linux software environment for the ARM architecture. Perhaps you are a hobbyist with some background in electronics or programming and wish to extend your skills to include experience on the ARM Architecture. We hope to teach you the basic skills required to design the next great ARM based innovation.

The tools and kits (Raspberry Pi’s) will be provided. There are however certain prerequisites for the workshop that all attendants will have to have completed by the start of the workshop. The preparation guide detailing said prerequisites will be emailed to all confirmed attendants.

This is an open event with limited spaces available. Please sign up on this eventbrite ( link. Confirmation via email will be relayed back to registered respondents.
