m:lab East Africa will hold its inaugural graduation for the first and second wave trainees on Monday 16th July, 2012 at the iHub Nairobi, from 9: 00 am to 1: 00 pm. The graduation will see 23 graduands awarded certificates in Mobile Apps Development and Entrepreneurship.
The chief guest will be Dr. Bitange Ndemo, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication. Other invited guests include m:lab’s corporate partners including InMobi, Samsung, Mercy Corps, MIH and Nokia.
The graduands are Dickson Nganga, Caroline Muchai, Mukeli Matei, Mwema Jacob, Nimrod Kibua, Samuel Kimani, Patrick Mutahi, James Losikany, Allan Onchuru, Nelson Bore, Nyambura Muhia, Daniel Thuranira, Richard Mujyambere, Anthony Mutisya, Njoro Kitindi, Michael Wanyama, Simon Mutua, Joe Okatch, Vera Onunda, Kevin Ngeno, Nicholas Waweru,Carolyne Kariuki, and Victor Karanja. Congratulations to the Graduands.
To be eligible to graduate, trainees of the m:lab program must complete an intensive 4 month period of training. Thereafter they propose an entrepreneurial project to pursue over the next 6 months for which they must come back and report progress. The 23 graduands who met the above criteria were in the first and second waves of the training program.
So far 60 trainees have undergone the initial training producing over 100 mobile applications. Many of the applications developed are available in Samsung Apps, Nokia Store and Google Play. Over 7 start-up ventures have been set up so far inspired by the training. This is in line with m:lab East Africa’s mission: “to facilitate demand-driven innovation by regional entrepreneurs, ensuring that breakthrough low-cost, high-value mobile solutions can be developed and scaled-up into sustainable businesses that address social and economic needs”.
m:lab’s training is designed to offer individuals who already have a software development background an opportunity to hone their skills on mobile applications technologies.The individuals also go through an intense entrepreneurship development program.
