Innovate Kenya seeks mentors and volunteers
Guest blogbyInnovate Kenya Innovate Kenya, a non-profit organization working with youth between the ages of 13-18, is looking for any professionals with experience in fields of environment, agriculture, technology, engineering, or health to mentor a team of 3-5 students participating in our program. We are also looking for volunteers to help evaluate our participants' project proposals, and we welcome any entrepreneur who could hold a workshop teaching our students about prototyping, budgeting, sustaining, scaling, and pitching and presenting. Innovate Kenya seeks to empower local youths to create and implement their own innovative solutions to pressing issues in their communities. We hold a social ideas-for-profit competition where top teams are selected and provided professional mentorship to develop their problem-solving prototypes. We have seen amazing innovations such as fire extinguishers made from citric acid of rotten tomatoes and foot-pumped kerosene cylinders that increase cooking efficiency. Another one of our teams, " target="_blank">GreenChar, developed an eco-friendly, smokeless, longer lasting, and cheaper charcoal. GreenChar recently won the Echoing Green Fellowship for an $80,000 grant and is now in the process of launching its vision of a greener cooking environment into reality. Below is a video on both GreenChar and Innovate Kenya. Participation from the professional community is one of the integral components of our program.
