BarCamp 2013 is here!
It is that time of the year again, when Nairobi’s tech community gets together to share ideas and exciting new projects at BarCamp Nairobi.Members of the iHub Board of Advisors Riyaz Bachani and Josiah Mugambi were instrumental in launching the Barcamp culture in Kenya together with David Kiania, David Kariuki, Eric Magutu and Nick Muttai and many others back in 2007. Since then and just like with other BarCamps all around the world, the basis of a successful BarCamp Nairobi has been the community. The community comes together to share what they are excited about and to learn from each other. Life changing connections are made and ideas are inspired.
Each year, Barcamp Nairobi operates around a theme and for 2013, the theme is “Beyond 50”.
If you have never been to BarCamp Nairobi before, we encourage you to be part of the event. We are looking for content managers, web designers, T-shirt designers, errand runners, beer servers, videographers etc. Volunteer here to be part of this great event. iHub hosted Barcamp Nairobi’s 5th birthday party in 2011 and we are delighted to have Barcamp back for 2013. Barcamp Nairobi 2013 will be held at the iHub on Saturday 24th August, 2013 from 8.30am. Registration will open soon. images by mentalacrobatic
As Kenya celebrates 50 years of independence this year, we have the unique and enviable opportunity to dream and contemplate what the next 50 years should look like and how technology will shape that future. As thinkers, technologists in various sectors, and citizens of this country we can begin the process of visualizing the future and shaping it.Challenges such as access to healthcare, quality and equitable education, food security have their answers in technology but maybe not how we see it at present. There will come a time in the next 50 years when these issues won’t be the topic of discussion. What will that future look like? What technologies will be pervasive? How will people interact and how will lives be affected and improved? - David Kiania
