Intel makes contribution to the local Developer Space
A multinational Microchip Manufacturer Intel is a world leader in computing innovation. The company designs and builds the essential technologies that serves as the foundation for the world’s computing devices. Intel is in the forefront of creating new technologies that enable better performance as well as greater reliability, manageability, security and connectivity.
With the Kenyan mobile phones penetration growing by each day, Intel is working hard to equip developers with the necessary skills to create and port Android-based apps on Intel architecture. Intel has programs for developers like the AppUpSM that provides a wealth of SDKs, API and other software tools to help create and optimize innovative new apps for Intel Ultrabook devices and other platforms.
Intel has partnered with various organizations in the industry to provide trainings for developers. This year, Intel in partnership with m:lab East Africa conducted two “deep dive” trainings at the m:lab premises. The android deep dive and Intel Applab trainings that took place in June and August respectively.
The trainings that attracted 53 participants aimed at training developers on developing and porting native android application for Intel Atom Processor – based devices. The trainings incorporated concepts of ideation and user experience to complement the developer’s programming skills for quality application development.
The training course included components on Intel specific concepts that will assist developers to better leverage its emerging platforms for mobile entrepreneurs. The trainers provided additional coaching hours to support the trainees in their class projects. A total of 41 applications were developed during the two trainings, all of them are in Google Play store. The link to the applications developed can be found HERE.
Intel also conducted a one day Training of Trainers (TOT) in May at the m:lab premises. The training saw 6 developers from the m:lab trained to be ambassadors of Intel. The developers have been facilitating Intel workshops and outreaches on behalf of Intel.
With several trainings successfully conducted at the m:lab in partnership with Intel, Microsoft and Qualcomm, we hope to partner with even more stakeholders in the industry in 2014 to conduct more trainings for the developers.
