Seedstars World – Discovering the best startups in emerging & fast-growing startup scenes | Application deadline: 31st March, 2013
Seedstars World is an exclusive worldwide competition to discover the best startups in emerging and fast growing startup scenes. The competition will take place from March 2013 till December 2013 in 20 different countries and cities in emerging markets and strategic Eldorados.
20 startups per country will be invited to “pitch” their ideas in front of a local jury and one startup per country will participate in the final global competition held in 2014 in Switzerland. There will also be 5 startups, chosen by online viewers that will compete in the final round. The winners will receive different prizes such as equity investments, entry into acceleration programs, advertising and hosting services.
How does it work?
A list of up to 100 startups is made in each country with the expertise and support of local Advisors and Regional Partners (e.g. accelerators, incubators, startup organisations, VCs, etc.). These startups are then invited to apply to the competition. Based on these applications 20 startups are then selected and invited to participate to a pitching event. The same process is applied in 20 countries around the world.
The startups are to pitch their ideas in front of a Regional Jury. At the end of the day, a Regional Winner is selected.
One winner per country and five startups chosen “on top” by the Seedstars World viewers are invited to participate to the Final in Switzerland in 2014. The winners will receive different prizes such as equity investments, entry into acceleration programs, advertising and hosting services for example.
Who can participate?
Only invited startups can apply. They must have been founded for no more than 2 years, with a maximum 0.5m USD funding to date and a Minimum Viable Product (MVP).
If you’re interested in taking part in the Nairobi event please email email@example.com by 31st March, 2013 with a full description of your startup.
A pitching event will be held in Nairobi in May 2013.
Who will be the finalists?
For every pitching event a local jury will vote for 1 startup, the regional winner. Every one of the regional winners will receive prizes and automatically be selected to participate in the final competition in Switzerland. On top, Seedstars World’s community can vote online for the best startups. The top 5 startups (excluding regional winners) with the most votes are elected as public winners and can take part to the final.
How does the final event in Switzerland work?
The Worldwide Jury will vote for Best Worldwide Startup.
The votes will be based on filmed pitch, presentation, websites, etc. provided by the company to Seedstars World.
The worldwide winner will get the worldwide winner package prize. Additionally, the 2nd to 10th winning companies will get various prizes.
How are the juries formed?
Regional jury: 1 Member of seedstars World; 1 regional successful entrepreneur; 2 regional partner; 2 regional investors (VC, Business Angel, Private or public investor)
Final Worldwide Jury: 1 Member of Seedstars World, 3 successful entrepreneurs and 3 regional investors (VC, Business Angel, Private or public investor)
Alisé de Tonnac and Pierre-Alain Masson, two Seedstars World team members, will travel in the different locations from March to December 2013. Keep following our blog to learn more about their trip and about all the events.
