Hujambo
Do you know of any company that sells individual electronic parts such as resistors, capacitors, transistors, diodes, etc. in Nairobi? We are considering relocating from the US and would like to pursue a business endeavor producing the product listed on our website. Any referral or assistance you can give us in this regard is greatly appreciated.
Asante

I wonder though with all that "innovation" if you can also find a shop among those stalls that sells electronic parts that go beyond the usual plug, cables and solar panel accessories. Something like resistors, capacitors and SMD parts. Or PCBs to design your own circuit.

Most existing shops may be interesting for the informal knowledge on technology and consumer needs. I'd love to see some real innovation though, not just (always) the repairing jobs.

Interesting piece. I agree wit you that the 'less formal' ICT in Kenya is really doing its thing and we don't seem to spend lot of time to study this bit. I guess its all about Mystery of Capital as put forward by Hernando De Soto, the fact that there is so much happening in the informal world while all our eyeballs are firmly fixed on the formal world!
Am not quite sure how to reform or integrate this part of the market though, at times it seems it chooses to be deliberately out of the formal market... if you know what i mean!
Would be nice to meet up and chat more around this topic.
