We’ve hosted a number of Fireside Chats with CEOs of top companies which have been around for a while and have earned their stripes. We do, however, believe that it’s important for us to also look at the companies which are still making their way up, who can share what their lessons from the trenches are as they move from initial startup phase to the next step.
Kopo Kopo is a merchant acquisition platform for mobile money systems. We offer a platform that makes it safe, easy and affordable for SMEs to accept mobile money payments at the point of sale. In Kenya, we have partnered with M-PESA to extend their platform into the millions of SMEs who want to offer their customers the option to pay with M-PESA.
Dylan Higgins, who will be presenting, is the CEO / Co-Founder of Kopo Kopo. Before Kopo Kopo, Dylan spent 7+ years as a technology consultant in Accenture’s High Technology group and practiced as a trial attorney in the US. He is also the founder of the crowdfunding site, SaveTogether, which he started after spending time in Ghana with Kiva. While not working, Dylan is always looking for excuses to explore Kenya, become a better cook, or finish his novel.

We’ll be hearing from Tahir Karmali, who works with clients from a variety of industry sectors and has over 8 years hospitality experience; he also delivers high impact online marketing for Eat Out Kenya’s clients and is a regular facilitator at their marketing and networking events. In working with individuals, his experience lies not only in supporting them, identifying the right future work/life goals, but also in the practicality of achieving those goals, include e-commerce and marketing development strategies. He is a great lover of food and a long time connoisseur of alcohol, which makes him the ideal person to work in Kenya’s growing restaurant industry.
In his earlier career, Tahir has operated at supervisor level, private, public and the charity sectors. His career includes the Sankara Nairobi where he worked under both the Marketing and F&B department developing F&B promotions from conceptualization to execution. He is currently the CEO of Eat Out Kenya-an online and comprehensive restaurant guide in Kenya. Tahir has an International degree in International Hospitality and Marketing at the prestigious Les Roches International School of Hotel Management.
