Patrick Collison, founder and CEO of Stripe, a payment system for developers, will be speaking at the iHub on Wednesday 12th September 2012 at 7 p.m. [Note: an earlier version of this post had put the start time at 6 p.m. This has been amended.]
Stripe software “lets web developers take payments via the internet, without having to set up their own merchant bank account or store consumers’ credit cards. Stripe manages the job of keeping data secure and complying with anti-fraud regulations.” More information here.
They recently attracted funding with the company being valued at $100 million. Investors in Stripe include Sequoia Capital; PayPal co-founders Peter Thiel and Elon Musk; angel investor Ron Conway; and Andreessen Horowitz, a venture firm co-founded by Web browser pioneer Marc Andreessen.
According to this TechCrunch piece, “Patrick is a technical prodigy having won numerous prestigious awards including Ireland’s 41st Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition in 2005, a national science competition which boasts hundreds of submissions each year from the country’s brightest young scientists. While attending MIT at age 18, he and his brother decided to build a better version of eBay. After applying to YC they merged with Kulveer and Harjeet Taggar to build Auctomatic. They moved to an apartment in San Francisco, raised angel funding, and went to work. After launching and getting initial user traction, the company was acquired by Live Current Media and the founders moved to Vancouver to build the product. From start to finish the company’s pre-acquisition life span was just 10-months. Stripe was also eventually funded by YC.”
Join us as we host Patrick on Wednesday evening for an informal discussion about his startup journey. Register here to attend.
