Call for applications open for new m:lab trainees
The call for applications for the fourth wave of m:Lab East Africa trainees is open. New trainees are to join the program beginning September for a four month program which will run between September 3th 2012 and December 31st 2012. The program aims to create mobile entrepreneurs through intense training on mobile technologies and business skills to advance mobile innovations.
Training is undertaken at m:lab East Africa (Bishop Magua Centre on Ngong road), within the training facility which has a capacity of 25 students, equipped with computers and high speed Internet connectivity. The Lab’s testing facility equipped with over 80 mobile devices from various manufacturers is also accessible to the students for applications testing.
The program is a full time (9.30am to 3.30pm) daily course on all week days. Trainees also get to interact and network with other developers and domain experts from the industry and other development sectors through events organized by m:lab East Africa and the iHub community. Speakers among them successful entrepreneurs and industry thought leaders also give talks weekly inspirational and instructional talks on the industry.
Technologies covered in the training include USSD, android, J2me, php, mysql, LWUIT, Mobile Web, IVR, User Experience Design, SMS, Systems Design. User Experience (UX) Design is also covered in the program. Business skills covered in the program include customer development, the business model canvas, marketing, operations management, financial management and pitching to investors. After the course all students propose a final project, and work on their it for at least three months to gather market traction. The trainees thereafter come back and to present progress reports which form the basis for their graduation.

I am a university of nairobi graduate with Bsc.agriculture an intense sandwitched 4 years course.I majored in Agricultural Economics.I am really interested in m.lab technologies and will be willing to dedicate my time.Given the chance i believe i can bring in new ideas and acquire knowledge.I would therefore like to be considered.If so,i would really appreciate.With those few remarks i wish the best.thanks in advance.Reply
